Bourne returned to league action last week with a trip to Lincoln to take on the high flying Lincoln 3rd XV

Bourne fresh from back to back friendly wins travelled to Lincoln knowing only a win was good enough after falling to defeat in their last three league games leaving them sat mid table. From the kick off it was clear that Bourne meant business with quick ball from scrum half Toby Lewis allowing Adam Binns and his backs hit the line with pace and breaking the game line early on. Lincoln with stood the pressure well early doors but were restricted to kicking from deep within their own twenty two which full back Calum Weston dealt with easily launching the Bourne attack once again. After a solid first ten minutes from Bourne they finally got some points on the board with an Adam Binns penalty.

Bourne's pack were bossing the game upfront lead by an inform Xanti Xipu and Tom Bishop both stealing ball against the head on more than one occasion. It was a result of this hard work from the Bourne pack that saw the first try of the game, Paul Mamby picking the ball up from the back of a scrum going blind and handing the Lincoln winger off with ease to cross under the posts. Binns easily converting.

Lincoln seemed to find another gear following the Bourne score and began a good period of position but with James Beanland and Jack Berry bossing the centre channels it appeared all in vain. Then the Bourne pack did it again, first a big push from the ten metre line leaving Lincoln back tracking to their own twenty two. Then moments later Xanti Xipu stealing ball against the head in the scrum allowing Tom Bishop to crash over the line resulting in a half time lead of 15-0 to Bourne.

The second half began were the first half finished with Bourne dominating around the break down making Lincoln kick on a number of occasions which Weston dealt with comfortably allowing Bourne to keep a firm hold on the game. With ten minutes gone in the second half Bourne stringed together the best move of the game, Tom Bishop stealing ball in the ruck and carrying an important ten metres to provide space for the clinical Bourne backs move which saw James Beanland break the line stepping the full back and then handing off the covering winger to cross under the posts. With Binns down injured Weston stepped up and slotted the conversation resulting in a 22-0 lead.

Unfortunately due to a neck injury the game was stopped on the hour mark however Bourne had secured their first away win in the 2011-12 season.

This Saturday Bourne take on Market Deeping 2nd XV at Market Deeping Rugby Club, please come down and support your local team in this big local derby.
