A young Bourne side slipped to defeat in this friendly against good friends and neighbours Stamford 2nd xv

Bourne 24 Stamford 2nd xv 33
On a typically scorching October Afternoon Bourne’s Backs took their turn to run the show leaving the strong Bourne forwards to go back to basics and regain their early season composure with an entirely different front row to the previous week due to injuries . The Adventure of the home backs was obvious from early on when Calum Weston obviously watching Johnny Wilkinson too closely earlier attempted a drop goal from his own half in the first 5 minutes and like his international counterpart missing from some distance and paid his subsequent fine in the clubhouse. The game flowed freely with good running and offloads from both sides and it took a moment of indiscipline from Stamford giving Bourne a penalty which Binns slotted home. Unfortunately this caused a young Bourne side to switch off and let Stamford take control scoring 3 tries in quick succession. Fortunately this new look Home Side does not know when to give up and Debutant Jackson made his way on to the post match stool by forcing through four defenders and reaching out to put the ball over the line as he was tackled. Try converted by Binns. Shortly after Bourne’s second try came as Binns Kicked from deep into his own half and collected his own kick recycling the ball to beanland and rushton who found binns 3o yards from the line from here on there was only one outcome as binns sprinted through to touchdown right under the posts leaving a conversion that even Weston could not miss. The game continued at a furious pace despite the heat with the forwards happy to play second fiddle and both sides running the ball well until Binns and ginger having a massive clash of heads leaving full back Ginger feeling like he had been hit by a bus. Both players left the field for a short while. And while Bourne reorganised Stamford seized to score two more tries. As the game entered the final quarter, Bourne closed the gap again as fine work in the ruck by the forwards allowed quick offloading again from the backs for Beanland to dot down in the corner and binns once more to convert. Leaving a tense finish neither side could add to the scores despite both sides’ best efforts. Over all a fantastic advert for local rugby especially in such heat.
Bourne would like to Thank Bullimores for their help with the remedial work on the pitch and surrounding areas.
