BOURNE VS TOWCESTRIANS

A great victory at #thedrove

Bourne Rugby Club extended their winning run to 5 matches with a convincing 31-5 victory over fourth placed Towcestrians at on Saturday, 8th March.

Bourne have looked back to their best form that saw them record top-four finishes for the last two seasons, despite being at the bottom of the table for the majority of Counties 1 East (South) season. They began the strongest of the sides, with second row Sam Harby crashing over in the corner to end his 4 year try drought. The home side remained the dominant side for the rest of the first half, but Towcestrians held firm and defended their line stubbornly, picking up penalties to half Bourne’s progress. Eventually, Bourne were able to make the most of the pressure they were exerting, with veteran Fly-Half Jack Berry evading oncoming tacklers to score under the posts. The try was converted and Bourne went into the half time break 12-0 up.

The Milking Nook Drove crowd were treated to more tries from their side in the second half, as they began to play with confidence and get the ball into the hands of their wingers. Full-back Liam Shields was next to score, he latched onto an offload following a midfield break and dove over to give his side a 3 score advantage, 19-0. Not willing to be outdone by the backs, the forwards were back on the scoresheet through flanker Liam Hind, who gathered an attacking chip kick to dot down for Bourne’s bonus point fourth try.

Towcestrians did gain some momentum late in the match to give them an outside chance of a comeback, but Bourne added the icing on the cake in the closing minutes of the match, Hind scoring his second of the day to take his side’s points tally above 30, the final score 31-5.

Bourne have jumped to 8th in the league, with a mouth-watering local derby clash with Champions Stamford next on the agenda. They travel to Hambleton Road on the 22nd March, all support is welcome and always greatly appreciated.
