The under 13's brought competitive junior rugby back to Milking Nook Drove on Sunday for the first time in 6 years when they welcomed Kesteven RUFC in the first round of the NLD cup. On a cold and foggy morning both teams impeccably observed 2 minutes silence on the new second team pitch prior to kick off. Bourne came out of the blocks really fast and got into an early lead through some fancy footwork and quick play. The boys started the game really switched on and had a real purpose about their play, working on a lot of the elements we had been working on in training which was especially pleasing given that this was the first competitive game for all players in the team. The desire and determination to support their team mates really shone through at the start of the game. As the game progressed Kesteven started to come back and made the match competitive throughout. A lot of the team ended up on the score board with vice captain Will Calvert topping the scoring throughout the match and plenty of other players getting over the try line. As a contest Bourne won the match within the first half as we were leading by more than 35 points with the half time score 45-10 to the boys in blue and gold. Kesteven remained in the fight throughout the second half and were particularly strong in the scrums but the running lines and individual performances from Bourne kept the score board ticking over. Our man of the match was awarded to Joseph Coles for his excellent 1 on 1 tackles, great attacking lines and really starting to make the fullback shirt his own. Plenty still to work on for the U13's back in training next week before round 2 of the NLD cup when we host Stamford on 10th December at MND.,
